Building
Inspections
The safety of the public is
the primary reason for this department. When you enter a building you want to be
assured that the design, the construction and the materials are safe and pose no
harm to you, even in the event of a natural disaster. Strategic checks during
the construction phase assure the inspectors (and you) that the builders are
erecting a safe structure in full compliance with the Building Codes.
Inspectors are responsible
for the compliance with standards and regulations concerning public property, health and welfare,
and for quality assurance of the design, construction and material quality.
They work with the engineers and planners and ensure that all work and material
meets or exceeds the quality demanded by the Building Codes. Many of the builders
depend on the inspector to keep them up to date on the code changes as they occur.
