Why Recycle?

In 1989, the State of California passed the Integrated Waste Management Act, AB989, which required each jurisdiction to reduce the amount of waste sent to a landfill by 50% by the year 2000. This is easier said than done, although many Cities and Counties have reached this goal in large part due to the participation of their entire community. Which is why we are asking each person who lives and/or works in Fortuna to make a commitment to 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.' It not only assists your home City comply with the State law but also helps preserve the natural resources found in and around Fortuna and throughout the world for future generations.
